About Minty’s Garden

A Legacy Rooted in Freedom

Minty's Garden wasn't born from a seed of chance, but a seed of purpose. The name itself whispers a tribute to Harriet Tubman, the legendary conductor of the Underground Railroad, who also bore the nickname "Minty." Her courage in leading enslaved people to freedom resonates deeply with my own mission: to empower our community to find liberation through their gut and by cultivating a more secure and sustainable future.

Just as Harriet Tubman guided people on a path to physical freedom, Minty's Garden aspires to guide them towards a different kind of liberation – freedom from dependence on unhealthy food systems, freedom from the burdens of food insecurity, and freedom to cultivate a healthier, more self-sufficient lifestyle.

We draw inspiration from Harriet Tubman's resourcefulness. Her reliance on the sustenance provided by wild plants during her escapes on the Underground Railroad underscores the power of knowing where your food comes from and how to grow it yourself. Minty's Garden echoes this by offering educational programs that equip people with the skills and knowledge to grow their own food.

Financial freedom is another pillar of our mission. By supporting local businesses and encouraging sustainable practices, we aim to create a more equitable food system that benefits both producers and consumers. This aligns with Harriet Tubman's fight for economic justice for herself and her fellow escapees.

Minty's Garden isn't just a farm, it's a bridge. A bridge between the past and the present, honoring Harriet Tubman's legacy while building a future where our community thrives. Just as she fostered hope and resilience in the face of adversity, we hope to inspire a generation to take charge of their health, their finances, and their connection to the land. Through fresh, local produce, educational workshops, and a commitment to community, Minty's Garden carries the torch of Harriet Tubman's fight for a brighter, more empowered tomorrow.
